Pericope 26 - another likeness
And he was saying that: "God's rule or reign,
his leadership, is likened unto - what?
What parable shall we present to frame
it, so it's seen to be somehow like God?
It's simile might be a mustard seed,
which when it has been sown upon the earth
might be the smallest seed of crop or weed
to fall upon the earth, that yet gives birth...
… thus: when it has been sown, it grows up and
becomes the greatest of all garden plants
with branches big enough that birds can land
upon them from the sky, in shade, perchance.
30 Καὶ ἔλεγεν· πῶς ὁμοιώσωμεν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ ἢ ἐν τίνι αὐτὴν παραβολῇ θῶμεν; 31 ὡς κόκκῳ σινάπεως, ὃς ὅταν σπαρῇ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, μικρότερον ὂν πάντων τῶν σπερμάτων τῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, 32καὶ ὅταν σπαρῇ, ἀναβαίνει καὶ γίνεται μεῖζον πάντων τῶν λαχάνων καὶ ποιεῖ κλάδους μεγάλους, ὥστε δύνασθαι ὑπὸ τὴν σκιὰν αὐτοῦ τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ κατασκηνοῦν.
